Three Children Dead In Coney Island Drowning, Mother Questioned

The mother, who has been identified as 30-year-old Erin Merdy, reportedly owed over $10,000 in back rent in an apartment close to the beach.

Authorities started trying to evict the family in January after the state’s COVID-19 eviction moratorium expired, court records show.

The mother allegedly told family members that she drowned her children, a 3-month-old,  4-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, on a nearby beach early Monday.

“I’m at a loss for words,” said a family member. “It’s not every day you lose three family members in one day. Nobody wants to go to the funeral and see those three bodies.”
