- A coal mine explosion in northern Turkey killed 41 people, according to the country’s president.
- Turkey Interior Minister said 58 people were working in the mine when the blast went off. Ten people remain hospitalized and one already has been discharged.
- The blast is believed to have occurred 300 meters deep. Initial indications are that the blast was caused by “firedamp,” a term referring to methane forming an explosive mixture in coal mines.
