50% Of Americans Claim To Have Tried Marijuana

  • A fresh Gallup survey, unveiled on Thursday, discloses that half of the U.S. population has experimented with marijuana, while 17% currently engage in its consumption — marking both figures as reaching their highest levels since the counterculture era of the 1960s.
  • The survey attributes these upward trends to the growing societal acceptance of cannabis. Presently, 23 states, including New York, have enacted legislation legalizing the recreational use of marijuana, and 38 states have sanctioned its sale for medicinal purposes.
  • Gallup’s analysis of the findings stated, “As marijuana has become more available to Americans and legal in an increasing number of states, their reports of use and experimentation have increased too. Now, half of the country has tried it, while the other half say they never have.”
