6-Year-Old Guns Down Teacher At Virginia School

  • A six-year-old male student deliberately fired a gun at a Newport News, Va., teacher, who sustained life-threatening injuries.
  • The shooting occurred at Richneck Elementary School in a first-grade classroom.
  • “The altercation was between a 6-year-old, the student, who did have the firearm, and the teacher, and then a round was fired,” said Newport News police chief Steve Drew, per NBC. “This was not an accidental shooting.”
  • The female teacher has been hospitalized. Drew said “[h]er injuries are still considered life-threatening, but there was some improvement in the last update that we got.”
