The Alabama Public Library Service Board of Directors voted Thursday to remove books about transgender individuals or that state there are more than two genders from the children’s section of public libraries.
The new rule says books about “transgender procedures, gender ideology or the concept of more than two biological genders” have to be placed in the adult section.
The rule will need to be validated by legislative services and will then go into effect in 2026.
Board Chairman John Wahl said the move is a “a major step forward in putting parents back in control in what their children are exposed to,” the Associated Press reported.
