- Findings were in McKinsey’s American Opportunity Survey.
- One quarter of those surveyed said had to take extra work “out of necessity to support basic family needs.”
- About 58 million Americans, or about 38% of employed survey respondents, identified as “independent workers” – freelancers, gig workers, those who rent out living spaces, or performed other jobs.
- Survey taken March 15-April 18, amid record-high inflation, driven in part by higher gas and food prices.
