  • New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made the comment Sunday when asked Sunday on MSNBC who was leading the House Republican Conference.
  • The suggestion goes back to when California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy was trying to become House speaker earlier this year and had to make promises to fellow Rep. Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, the unofficial leader of the conference’s most hard-right wing, to win the post.
  • “I think you’ve got Marjorie Taylor Greene running the caucus,” said Ocasio-Cortez, the official leader of the House Democratic Caucus’ most liberal, or progressive, wing. Greene “makes very common public statements to that effect.”
