- The storm had forecasters warning Sunday of treacherous holiday travel and life-threatening cold for much of the country, with Christmas next weekend.
- “We’re looking at … potentially record-low temperatures leading up to the Christmas holiday,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Zack Taylor.
- The NWS’s special weather statement Sunday warned of “extreme and prolonged freezing conditions for southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana,” with the cold expected to arrive Thursday.
