- Rushdie’s agent said this weekend that the author – who wrote “Satanic Verses” – has lost sight in one of eye and use of one hand.
- Agent Andrew Wylie told the Spanish press the 75-year-old Rushdie has lost use of the hand because nerves in his arm were cut and that he has about 15 more wounds in his chest and torso.
- “It was a brutal attack,” Wylie also said.
- The novel “Satanic Verses” was published in 1988 to wide acclaim but was considered blasphemous among Islamic extremist, with Supreme Leader of Iran Ruhollah Khomeini a year later calling for Rushdie’s death, resulting in several failed assassination attempts.
