Baywatch Rescue: 19 Migrants Off LA Beach

  • U.S. Coast Guard assisted Los Angeles Baywatch boats in rescue of migrants in small, disabled fishing vessel.
  • Following good Samaritan call, helicopter rescue crew from Air Station San Diego located the boat 18 miles west of Redondo Beach.
  • Crew of Baywatch Redondo helped Coast Guard take the passengers from the boat to the Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach in San Pedro.
  • Rescued were processed by Customs and Border Protection agents, according to the Coast Guard.
  • “This case highlights the inherent risks posed to migrants attempting to enter the United States by sea and the dynamic nature of our operations,” said Coast Guard Capt. Ryan Manning. “Coast Guard routinely patrols the California coastline to combat illegal migration.”
