In a distressing event on Wednesday afternoon, a student from Paul Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. became the victim of armed robbery, targeted for his costly footwear.
At approximately 3:40 p.m., en route from school, the young scholar was accosted by three assailants on the 8th and Peabody Streets NW. The attackers brutally struck him, forced him to the ground, and seized his Air Jordan XI sneakers — valued at nearly $250 — right off his feet.
The incident escalated when one of the perpetrators menaced the student with a handgun tucked in his waistband, threatening his life were he to resist. The trio successfully fled the scene, leaving behind the shaken student without his sneakers.
In response to the unnerving episode, Paul Public Charter School’s principal issued a communication to parents, outlining the sequence of events and assuring them that additional safety measures are in place to protect students. The letter underscored the importance of vigilance in the wake of this crime.
Local law enforcement is investigating the robbery and seeking to apprehend the suspects. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may aid in the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for this violent act.
