- The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit on Thursday against SpaceX, a rocket and satellite company owned by Elon Musk, alleging discriminatory practices in hiring against asylum seekers and refugees.
- According to a statement from the Justice Department, the lawsuit claims that from September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX systematically discouraged individuals seeking asylum and refugees from applying for jobs and also declined to hire or consider them based on their citizenship status, thereby violating the Immigration and Nationality Act.
- The Justice Department further noted that SpaceX, through job postings and public declarations spanning multiple years, inaccurately asserted that due to federal regulations, specifically export control laws, the company was restricted to hiring exclusively U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, commonly known as “green card holders.”
