- “Brett never got any of this money. They’re suing him for $5 million that went from the state agency that’s responsible for welfare funds and ended up in the pocket of another state agency, Southern Miss, and there’s some way they think that’s theft,” Herschmann argued.
- “There may be a problem within Mississippi … but this really has nothing to do with Brett,” the attorney added. Immediately after discovering the funds were taken from the state welfare agency, Favre returned the money, according to Herschmann.
- Last September, former Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services John Davis pleaded guilty to conspiracy and theft relating to the $77 million welfare scandal, which is Mississippi’s largest public corruption case ever, according to CBS.
