Calls Pour Into 988 Mental Health Helpline
More than 200 call centers across U.S. take calls from those considering suicide, mental health emergency

- The 988 mental health helpline — which takes calls around the clock — has received more than 2 million calls, texts, and chat messages in the first six months since it launched.
- The helpline was built upon the old national lifeline and has been quickly expanding its reach after it was launched with bipartisan congressional support and nearly $1 billion in federal funding.
- The number of centers taking calls in Spanish expanded from three to seven in 2022 and a pilot line has been initiated to take calls from LGBTQ youth.
