A suspect has been taken into custody on charges of criminal damage and dangerous driving following an incident where a vehicle deliberately rammed into the gates of Downing Street, the home of the U.K.’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
According to a statement by the Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred today Thursday when a silver Kia car collided with the gates.
Footage broadcast on the BBC captures the car approaching the gates at a relatively slow speed, coming to a brief halt, and then proceeding to forcefully drive into the gates. A similar event occurred Tuesday when a 19-year-old in a U-Haul rammed into barriers near the White House.
