Carville To Dem Candidates: ‘Just Yelling Abortion’ Won’t Work

Longtime Democrat strategist James Carville made the comment about 2022 Democrat candidates being hyper focused on Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices having overturned Roe v. Wade in the context of Nevada Democrat incumbent Sen. Cathrine Cortez Masto battling to win reelection.

  • Democrat at the start of the election cycle were bracing for sizable losses in the House and Senate, based on historical trends regarding voters typically voting against the party in control of the White House.
  • The trend seemed to change this past summer after the high court struck down Roe v. Wade, ending decades of constitutional rights for women seeking abortion.
  • “A lot of these consultants think if all we do is run abortion spots that will win for us. I don’t think so,” Carville, a Cortez Masto ally who has sent dozens of fundraising emails on her behalf, told the Associated Press. “It’s a good issue. But if you just sit there and they’re pummeling you on crime and pummeling you on the cost of living, you’ve got to be more aggressive than just yelling abortion every other word.”
