CDC Reports First Increase In Fertility Rate Since 2014

Four percent drop in general fertility rate between 2019 and 2020

  • A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report concluded that U.S. fertility rates increased in 2021 for the first time since 2014.
  • In 2021, the general fertility rate increased by 1 percent from the year prior, amounting to 56.3 births per 1,000 women in the 15 to 44-year-old age range.
  • Birth rates increased among women aged 25 to 44 and the average age for pregnant women at first birth was 27.3 years old, a new record high.
