- The Department of Justice (DOJ) has chosen to dismiss the campaign finance charges against Sam Bankman-Fried, the accused ‘crypto scammer’ who allegedly misused customer deposits and made substantial political contributions totaling $90 million to approximately 300 primarily left-leaning political candidates and action committees (PACs).
- Prosecutors cited the “mishandling” of the extradition process from the Bahamas as the reason for dropping the charges. In a letter, they stated, “In keeping with its treaty obligations to the Bahamas, the government does not intend to proceed to trial on the campaign contributions count.”
- Bankman-Fried, once boasting a net worth of approximately $26.5 billion, ranked second only to George Soros in terms of donations to Democratic candidates during the previous year. Notably, he also contributed to some Republican candidates through what he described as ‘dark’ channels.
