- The city of Baltimore used to be known as “Charm City,” though the truth is that it’s had a lot of nicknames over the years.
- Some of those nicknames had a sardonic undercurrent. For example, “The City That Reads” came be known as “The City That Bleeds,” a reference to its crime problem, or “The City That Breeds,” a nod to its teen pregnancy problem. Even “Charm City” came to be known as “Harm City.”
- But that hasn’t stopped Baltimore, the setting for the gritty crime drama “The Wire,” from continuing its perpetual search for the perfect slogan.
