- Safeguard Defenders, a human-rights watchdog, released a report documenting that China has dozens over “overseas police service stations” around the world, including in New York, to monitor its citizens.
- According to Safeguard Defenders, Chinese authorities have been “carrying out policing operations in foreign soil,” resulting in 230,000 Chinese nationals returning to China to face prosecution.
- The authors wrote: “These operations eschew official bilateral police and judicial cooperation and violate the international rule of law, and may violate the territorial integrity in third countries involved in setting up a parallel policing mechanism using illegal methods.”
