China Says US, Other Countries’ COVID Restrictions ‘Political,’ Vows Payback

- Australia, Canada, India, Japan, the United State and several European nations have announced tougher measures in recent weeks amid concerns over a lack of data on infections in China and fears about a new variants emerging – including passing a COVID test prior to boarding a flight.
- China’s ruling Communist Party on Tuesday called the new restriction and suggested payback.
- “We are firmly opposed to attempts to manipulate the COVID measures for political purposes and will take countermeasures based on the principle of reciprocity,” said China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
