- After Beijing announced that it would retaliate against countries that require a negative COVID test from travelers from China, the country halted issuing short-term visas in Japan and South Korea.
- The U.S., Japan, and South Korea are among the countries that require negative COVID-19 tests for travelers from China as the virus spreads among its 1.4 billion people.
- China’s foreign ministry spokesperson called the measures for Chinese travelers “discriminatory,” though China imposes similar testing requirements for all arrivals.
