City In Washington State Gives Free Parking To People Living in Vehicles

The Bellevue City Council recently approved an annual budget allocation of $450,000 to implement the pilot program as part of the city’s homelessness response efforts.

  • City officials says the objective for the project is to provide a clean and safe parking area that is off-street.
  • The lot set for the program is expected to hold 20 vehicles of any size, which is roughly 24% of Bellevue residents living in their cars.
  • The most recent count of city residents living in their vehicles was 83 in 2021.
