• The common antibiotic amoxicillin is reportedly in short supply, according to three of the largest manufacturers of the drug.
• Amoxicillin is most often used to treat bacterial infections in children, such as ear infections, and bacterial sinus and throat infections.
• The drug comes in capsules, tablets, and chewable tablets, but children use the liquid form of amoxicillin, which is said to be most impacted.
• Though amoxicillin is a “first-line” therapy, there are other antibiotics that can be prescribed for patients, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
