Court Sides For Christian Baker Who Refused To Make Lesbian Cake

A California court has ruled in favor of a Christian baker in a years-long legal battle for her refused to bake a custom cake for a lesbian wedding in 2017, citing her religious beliefs.

  • The Thomas More Society – a conservative Roman Catholic public-interest law firm – says  Tastries owner Cathy Miller’s case ‘First Amendment victory’
  • “We applaud the court for this decision,” the firm said after the ruling Friday. “The freedom to practice one’s religion is enshrined in the First Amendment, and the United States Supreme Court has long upheld the freedom of artistic expression.”
  • Miller, a cake designer who owns the popular Tastries bakery in Bakersfield, California, won when a state Superior Court judge ruled against California’s Department of Fair Housing and Employment, which had brought the lawsuit against her.
