COVID Subvariant Found In LA County, Could ‘Evade Prior Protections’

The Omicron subvariant BA.2.75.2, a newer COVID-19 strain, has reportedly been detected in Los Angeles County, after having been detected in Asia, Europe, elsewhere.

  • Three specimens of BA.2.75.2 have reportedly been detected in the California county.
  • County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer says what is potentially worrisome is that the varient “may both evade prior protections” such as natural immunity from previous infection and earlier COVID shots.
  • Though pandemic case and hospitalization numbers continue to trend downward, officials and experts are concerned about increasing numbers in the fall and winter, as has happened in the past
