- Fort Totten Park in Washington, D.C., has been closed following the discovery of World War I-era munitions this spring, and authorities suggest there may be additional findings.
- The Civil War-era fort, positioned three miles north of the Capitol, is currently enclosed by fencing, blocked with cement barriers, and features “no trespassing” signs, as indicated by the National Park Service on Thursday.
- The closure ensued after two metal canisters were uncovered in the park on April 18. This discovery followed “unauthorized work conducted by an adjacent property owner” that resulted in approximately 10 feet of soil being displaced onto National Park Service land, according to the park service.
