DC Plane Crash: Airport Workers Arrested After Alleged Video Leak

Two Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) employees have been arrested after footage that was apparently captured by an airport surveillance camera of last week’s fatal midair collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter was shown on CNN.

The collision near Washington’s Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night caused both aircraft to plunge into the Potomac River. Sixty-four people were aboard the American Airlines jet and three were onboard the Black Hawk helicopter, which was on a training mission. There were no survivors.

It was the deadliest plane accident in the U.S. since November 12, 2001, when a jet crashed into a New York City neighborhood shortly after takeoff, killing all 260 people onboard and five others on the ground.

Mohamed Lamine Mbengue, 21, of Rockville, Maryland, was charged on Friday with computer trespass for “making an unauthorized copy of Airports Authority records,” The Washington Post reported, citing MWAA spokeswoman Crystal Nosal.

Another employee, Jonathan Savoy, 45, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was arrested on Sunday and also charged with computer trespass, Nosal said. Both were booked and released.
