Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced Wednesday morning that he will be bringing Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing concerns over what he described as a potential “ethnic cleansing in Gaza.”
“The movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” Green declared on the House floor.
Green, who represents the Houston area, has a history of attempting to impeach Trump. During Trump’s first term, between 2017 and 2019, he introduced impeachment resolutions three times—each attempt ultimately failing.
Trump’s comments during a Tuesday press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked controversy, after the president said that the United States intends to “take over” the Gaza Strip, drawing both criticism and support from lawmakers.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too,” Trump said. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.” He added, “Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings. Level it out. Create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”
Israel has been at war with Hamas since the Palestinian terror group staged an attack on the nation on October 7, 2023, murdering 1,200 people and taking many others hostage. A ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hamas in late January to bring back the hostages remaining in captivity.
