In response to former President Donald Trump’s criticism that his six-week abortion ban is “too harsh,” Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the legislation.
On April 13, Governor DeSantis signed The Heartbeat Protection Act, which prohibits abortions after six weeks of gestation, except in cases of rape, incest, human trafficking, and when the mother’s life is endangered. The law also allows for abortions up to 15 weeks in specific circumstances.
Trump stated on Monday that many pro-life supporters perceive the law to be too strict.
