Governor Ron DeSantis signed Florida’s new congressional map into law Monday.
The legislature passed the controversial new map during a special session last week.
The governor’s office told lawmakers it used political data, not race. Critics say that violates Florida’s Fair Districts rules, which ban drawing maps mainly to help a party.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruling means states can’t use race as the main reason to draw district lines.
Florida’s move follows a national trend of states redrawing maps for partisan advantage that started last year after President Donald Trump urged Texas Republicans to redraw districts in an attempt to win more House seats.
Voting advocates have promised to challenge the map in court.
