Detroit OP-ED: Parents Not In Charge Of Schools, 'That's A Good Thing'

The opinion story – formally titled “Parents are Not in Charge of Schools. That’s a Good Thing” – was written amid turmoil in a school district within that paper’s circulation over the kinds of material available in its public school library.
Parents involvement is their children’s curriculum and their demand that school administrations and boards be more transparent about their actions is a center piece of the campaigns of many GOP midterm candidates.
The op-ed also appears to argue public school are intended to prepare children for citizenship in a “bigger, more diverse world” in which encounter in their parents’ kitchen.
