- The state of Minnesota has charged the Energy Department’s head of spent nuclear fuel management with felony theft, court documents show.
- A criminal complaint filed Sunday in a Minnesota court shows the agency’s Sam Brinton, who began working in June as DOE’s deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition, is accused of stealing a bag in September from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s baggage claim area.
- The complaint alleges Brinton, reportedly the first openly gender-fluid person in federal government leadership, on Sept. 16 was seen on airport surveillance video taking a hard-sided roller bag from a baggage claim carousel — a bag similar to one reported missing that day.
- The woman who reported the bag missing says the total value of items in the allegedly stolen bag was roughly $2,325.
