Drownings Help Drive Migrant Border Deaths To Record Level

  • Drownings in the Rio Grande have helped drive the migrant death total over the past fiscal year to nearly 800.
  • The just-concluded fiscal year saw a record number of migrant encounters at. the border – more than 2 million total.
  • It’s also been the deadliest for migrants, with at least 782 migrant deaths. At least 30 of those deaths occurred in the past month.
