El Paso Mayor Declares State of Emergency Amid Migrant Surge

- “That’s not the way we want to treat people,” Mayor Oscar Leeser said Saturday evening.
- Leeser also suggested he declared the emergency to allow the city to access additional resources when the Biden administration ends the implementation of a law known as Title 42, which the Trump White House used to limit migration after the start of the pandemic.
- Title 42 is expected to end Wednesday and result in a surge in immigration at the southern U.S. border, unless the courts intervene.
