Los Angeles County District  Attorney George Gascón, the self-described “godfather of progressive prosecutors,” on Super Tuesday faces 11 challengers.

Critics have made him the target of their complaints about crime, pointing to such progressive policies such as not allowing prosecutors to seek the death penalty, trying juveniles as adults and  shorter prison sentences, even in some cases where violence was alleged.

He has already faced two recall efforts.

In addition, dozens of city councils have cast no-confidence votes against Gascón.

The prosecutor, whose winning 2020 campaign was backed by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, a supporter of progressive politics, now faces nearly a dozen challengers, riding the wave of public opinion that Gascón’s policies have resulted in crime throughout the county.
