Facial-Recognition Gun Goes On Sale, First Expected On Streets As Early As June

  • The Colorado-based Biofire Tech has started taking orders for a s0-called smart gun that uses facial recognition technology to allow the gun to be fired only by verified users.
  • The 9mm handgun could be shipped to customers who pre-ordered them as soon as the second quarter.
  • The company is selling two different models – one at $1,499 and the other at $2,000.
  • If the sales timelines go as planned, the BioFire gun would become the first commercially available smart gun in the U.S. since the Armatix briefly went on sale in 2014, according to Reuters.
