The Federal Communications Commission’s lone Democrat commissioner has accused the agency of being weaponized against the media under President Donald Trump.
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez made the allegations in a sharply worded letter to Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, claiming ABC and its parent company have faced a “sustained, coordinated campaign of censorship and control” orchestrated through the FCC under Chair Brendan Carr.
Gomez argued the FCC has been transformed into a political tool designed to pressure “a free and independent press and all media into submission.”
There are several ongoing FCC investigations involving Disney and ABC, including probes into the network’s handling of “The View,” diversity and inclusion policies, and ABC’s moderation of the 2024 presidential debate between then-candidate Donald Trump and former Vice President Kamala Harris, The Wall Street Journal reported.
In her letter, Gomez said the campaign against Disney intensified after ABC agreed to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Trump involving “Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos.
“That settlement did not buy you peace,” Gomez wrote. “You cannot buy this Administration’s favor. For the right price, you can only borrow it. And the price always goes up.”
