- The campaign staff of Pennsylvania Democrat Senate candidate John Fetterman blamed his poor debate performance on the closed-captioning system that he needed to understand what was being said by the moderators and Republican opponent Mehmet Oz.
- “We are thrilled with John’s performance. He did remarkably well tonight — especially when you consider that he’s still recovering from a stroke and was working off of delayed captions filled with errors,” Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, said. “John won countless exchanges, counter-punched aggressively, and pushed back on Oz’s cruelty and attacks,” Calvello said.
- Fetterman rehearsed with the system prior to the debate and didn’t express any concerns about it.
