Florida Braces For Nicole, Declares State Of Emergency In 34 Counties

The subtropical storm formed northeast of the Bahamas, and a parts of southern Florida are now in the storm's likely track.

  • Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday issued an executive order to declare a state of emergency in all counties that are in Nicole’s potential path.
  • “While this storm does not appear, at this time, to become much stronger, I urge all Floridians to be prepared and listen to announcements from local emergency management officials. We will continue to monitor the track and strength of this storm.” as it moves into Florida,” DeSantis said.
  • Nicole is now a subtropical storm that could become a hurricane or cyclone when it approaches the eastern coast of the Florida.
  • In late September, at least 114 died in Florida as a result of Hurricane Ian – the most deaths in the state as a result of a  hurricane in almost 90 years.
