Florida’s Rubio Vows No Vote On Hurricane Relief Bill If It Has ‘Pork’

Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, whose home state was battered by Hurricane Ian, says he'll vote against any potential storm relief bill if it's stuffed with additional spending measures.

  • Rubio said specifically Sunday on CNN he’ll oppose any efforts to include “pork” in a relief package.
  • “Sure. I will fight against it having pork in it. That’s the key,” he said.  “We shouldn’t have that in there because it undermines the ability to come back and do this in the future. I think disaster relief is something we shouldn’t play with.”
  • Rubio, facing a competitive challenge to his November reelection bid, voted against a relief bill for 2012 Hurricane Sandy for similar reasons.
