- Former Louisiana State Sen. Karen Carter Peterson was in federal court Wednesday for sentencing on a federal wire fraud charge. A judge sentenced Peterson to 22 months in jail.
- Peterson was accompanied by her husband and sister when she entered court.
- Peterson pleaded guilty to the charge back in August and has since been disbarred.
- She also is accused of misappropriating funds while chair of a state political party. Peterson was chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party for over seven years.
