Friday Night Lights! House Adjourns Until 10 PM For 14th Vote

  • Republicans successfully brought forward a motion to adjourn until 10 p.m. after two attempts to elect a speaker of the House on Friday.
  • Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has failed on 13 ballots since Tuesday but managed to win over 14 Republicans as he inches closer to securing the speaker’s gavel.
  • With six conservative members of his party continuing to withhold their support — McCarthy can only afford to lose four votes — the GOP moved to adjourn as negotiations continue. The vote passed 220 to 212.
