Gavin Newsom Considers Closing More CA Prisons Despite Soaring Crime

In an effort to address budgetary concerns and decrease the prison population, California Democrats are urging Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) to take further measures in closing additional prisons.

The Assembly leaders recently presented their budget plan for 2023, which coincided with Governor Newsom’s revised California 2023-24 budget proposal.

As the June 15 deadline for a budget agreement approaches, the California Legislature is tasked with reaching a consensus on the matter.
