Georgia Town’s Mayor Blocked From All City Buildings

The City of South Fulton released bodycam video of the moment Mayor Kobi — formerly known as Mayor Khalid Kamau — exited City Hall behind this week’s unfolding saga. A 16-minute clip that’s labeled from Feb. 12 shows the South Fulton Police Department’s interaction with Kobi.

“Mayor, I’ve been instructed to not allow you in your office and also you aren’t permitted to drive a city vehicle per directions from the city manager and the chief,” one of the officers said.

The interaction is the outcome behind the city council’s actions in an early-morning meeting to bar the mayor from city buildings and shut down his budget over what they alleged is his “unauthorized use of resources and abuse of his position.”

The moves, taken by the council just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, came following reports about Kobi taking international trips with taxpayer funds and renovating much of City Hall.

About six and a half minutes into the clip, the mayor appears in the bodycam video and talks to officers, where he is told he will not be allowed inside of his office.

Kobi then walked to a table in the hallway to gather some of his belongings. The bodycam video shows him exiting the building, walking into the parking lot and opening a car door to get his dog, Zion, along with other items.
