Germany Keeps Nuclear Plants Open As Russia Squeezes Gas Supply

With Winter Approaching, Germany Delays Plans To Shutter Power Plants

  • Germany canceled plans to shutter two nuclear power plants, instead keeping them open because Russia is squeezing Europe’s gas supplies.
  • Gas prices in Europe rose 30 percent after Russia cut off gas supplies to the continent Sept. 5.
  • Germany had planned to shutter the plants by December, but now plans to keep them operational until at least April.
