The family of Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Jeffrey Epstein who died by suicide in April, will join lawmakers and other Epstein survivors in Washington on Tuesday to announce Virginia’s Law in an effort to eliminate the statute of limitations that has shielded traffickers and denied survivors their day in court.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, and Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, D-NM, jointly introduced the legislation and have been publicly active in supporting the survivors of Epstein and pushing for greater transparency and accountability for how the government has handled the information.
As chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Rep. Leger Fernández condemned what she described as the Department of Justice’s inadequate and partial release of the Epstein files, saying the files’ incomplete and heavily redacted release violates federal law and continues to harm survivors. She stressed the need for full transparency “to show who was involved, who is complicit,” and for respecting the survivors’ experiences and legal rights.
Their focus aligns with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law passed by Congress last year requiring the release of unclassified Epstein-related records — legislation Schumer strongly backed in Congress.
