‘Godzilla’ Tornadoes Across Central US Claim At 8 Lives

At least eight people have been killed as a series of severe storms spawned destructive tornadoes across the central US.

Four people lost their lives on Friday in southern Michigan as the potent storms demolished homes, hurled roof fragments into the sky, and left a swath of debris dangling from power lines. In the vicinity of Union Lake, near Union City, an apparent tornado claimed three lives and injured 12 others, according to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.

Terrified locals in the region reportedly described the tornado as the “Godzilla of twisters.” Approximately 50 miles southwest, Cass County officials reported one fatality and several injuries following another tornado touchdown.

A mother and daughter in Fairview, Oklahoma, were killed when their van was caught in the path of a powerful tornado on Thursday night. Two others were also killed over 170 miles away in Beggs, Oklahoma officials confirmed, as the severe weather system brought golf ball-sized hail to the state.
