- Texas GOP Rep. Michael McCaul on Sunday backed former Vice President Mike Pence reiterating the night before – in very strong language – his criticism for former President Trump for Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot.
- “Vice President Pence exercised moral clarity and judgment that day,” McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affair Committee, said onCBS’s “Face The Nation.” “It was a dark day, and I think history will judge everyone by what they did that day.”
-
Pence, a potential challenger to Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, said Saturday night at the annual Washington, D.C., Gridiron Club event the Jan. 6 riot was a “disgrace” and that Trump’s “reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

A senior Republican lawmaker on Sunday criticized the Biden administration for not sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, as tensions simmer about whether China could send weapons to help Russia in the year-long war. McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee, told ABC's “This Week” that planes and long-range artillery could help end the war on a faster timeline. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin, File)
