• Jeff Beck, one of the greatest guitarists of all time who rose to fame in the English rock band The Yardbirds, died on Tuesday. He was 78.
• His family said in a statement on Wednesday: “It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
• Beck won eight Grammy Awards and ranked fifth on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists. He also fronted the Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice.
